History – From Värnamo to the world

Bufab was founded in 1977 by two young entrepreneurs in a small village a few kilometres from Värnamo, Sweden. They started up the business in a small basement and with a great vision – to become a world-leading supplier of fasteners one day. Today Bufab has more than 1,000 employees in more than 20 countries and we still retain a lot of the down-to-earth and personable feeling that we’ve had since the very beginning. Since then we have enjoyed more than 40 years of growth and stability through our consistent focus on delivering value to our customers.

Some key events in our history:

Entrepreneur-driven growth (1977-2004)

The Bufab business was started by Hans Björstrand and Roland Johansson, and right from the beginning it was characterised by an entrepreneurial and cost-efficient trading culture. During this period, Bufab´s net sales increased to SEK 1,077 million, through both organic and acquisition-driven growth, primarily focused on the Swedish market. The listed company Finnveden acquired Bufab during the period and the company became one of that group´s separate business divisions.

International expansion (2005-2011)

After Nordic Capital Fund V bought out and delisted Finnveden in 2005, Bufab was separated from Finnveden and the company began a period of rapid geographic expansion. The company´s net sales more than doubled, amounting at the end of the period to SEK 2,417 million. The company established operations in a number of new countries by way of acquisitions and founding new subsidiaries. By 2011, Bufab had operations in 23 countries.

Growth from a solid platform (2012 onwards)

Currently Bufab is in a growth phase based on the internationally established operations that the company calls its platform. During this phase, the company has appointed a new CEO as well as new group management which together have formulated an accelerated growth strategy that benefits from this platform. In addition to accelerated organic growth, the strategy aims to sustain and increase the company’s efficiency as well as achieve growth through value-adding acquisitions. Bufab shares have been listed on the NASDAQ OMX Stockholm since February 2014.
